In response to a few pm's about how the event works:

The 24 hour marathon portion is non competitive but we have a box of smaller prizes we hand out through the night for those catching fish. The competitive portion of the event will be like any other derby with a scale and a number of prizes for largest fish caught. We also have an inexpensive family portion of the event with three family/kids prize baskets for fish caught. There are a number of kids activities , mascots, etc. The best prizes are for pledge earners(after all it is a fundraiser). When you register for the 24 hour event you will be sent a pledge sheet. Your entry of $50 entitles you to a dinner voucher, a breakfast voucher and one ticket towards the pledge earner prizes. For every $25 raised above that you get another ticket. so basically the more you raise, the more chances to win these prizes. You can bring your own shelter or fish in the main event tent. This is a really casual and easy going event and meant to be more fun and comraderie than competition. We also have a short fish-off for media/celebrity and the winner of this event has their name on a trophy that is kept for a year. Past winners included Gord Leclerc(CKY)/Ryan Johnson, Chris Cvetkovic(Blue Bombers)/ Craig Stapon(CJOB), Jon Lundberg (City TV)/ Todd Longley (Citycats) as well as Lyle Bauer (Blue Bombers). We are still compiling our sponsorships and prize lists so more on that later. Please PM me for more information or visit our website at www.walleyewarriormarathon.com

I'm going to miss the derby this year unfortunatly. The wife is makeing me to the Dominican for our honeymoon.
I made out the marathon the last 2 years and had an absolute blast each year. It's become one of the highlights of the ice season for me. Good times, great people, tons of fun. Just don't fall asleep in the big tent lol.

The early bird deadline is in fact January 31. The website also states that you need to send in your $50 pledge. This only was done last year at the request of the Never Alone Foundation. This year as in previous to last you only need to be registered before the deadline and in attendance at the prize draws on sunday. Early bird prizes are two guided half day fishing trips on the Red courtesy of Citycats and Central Guiding Service.

As everyone here knows the access to the river from Selkirk Park has been closed for the remainder of the season. After a meeting in Selkirk today I am happy to inform the participants that we are guaranteed cleared pedestrian access and if the work continues to proceed on schedule and weather remains co-operative we will also have a vehicular access around the immediate work area. The vehicular access confirmation is subject to another evaluation one week from today. This is promising news for the organizing committee and volunteers.

This will become Plan "B" for many Mike if there is no actual vehicle access right at the site.Another option would to come up to the site from Hydro Park at the Old bridge.Shouldn't be too difficult for most vehicles from these locations if conditions stay the way they are.Practiced my bombing through the thick stuff earlier today North of EOM.Let's just say it was a little interesting Shocked Shocked

The pedestrian access is guaranteed. Next access for vehicles is from the FPB and it was not too bad lately. Smiley

We have access to bring items to the site, participants with mobility issues, and for participants to unload gear. We are also doing this:
