As I sit here in the ice house watching my spring bobber,
I wonder to myself  "Why do I bother""
I just toted a half ton of stuff across the ice
I broke a sweat, now I'm freezing. How nice.
The heater is warming things up as I pour some coffee in cup.
My hands are frosty as I just set my last tipup!
The vex is in the hole as well as my ice line.
I left my watch at home, so I won't worry about the time.
The dreams of the day I am going to have, just keep going through my head.
But so far' I haven't had a bite just yet.
As grab my cup of coffee, my rod starts to tip down.
I missed that bite and my face now has a frown.
I fished all day with only that one bite.
Darn, now it's time to call it a night.
Once back home I leaned back in my easy chair.
I thought about the lake and I wished I were still there!

As the dawn light breaks the horizon,
I find my sole rise with the developing day that is before me.
I will set forth upon this lake with only one thing in mind.
The scerenity that only an iceman can find.
As the ice chips underniethe my spud fly,
My heart rate raises and I know just why.
It's not the effort I am putting forth to get through the ice
It's the time I will enjoy once I am through the layer of ice.
With my jig tipped with waxies and my Vex in the hole,
I hope no one say it, I started to druel.
Down the hole goes my jig as I released my line.
This has to be the most ultimate time.
I just got jig in the water for another day of fishing.
Sure beats sitting all summer just sitting and wishing.
As the day grew to and end and the pole was put away,
All I know is I just enjoyed       another beautiful day.

Here's one I wrote for a creative writing class I took in college:

I tread through the hardened snow
behind me, my gear in tow
I cross the firmly frozen lake,
imagining the bounty I might take
And hoping for a good day alone

The crisp wind stings my unshaven face
a little further to my secret place
A honey hole all to myself
between Snug Harbor and Johnson’s shelf
A place that is little known

I set my place and drill a hole
and put a lure on my favorite pole
Bait the hook and drop the line
to see what wonders I may find
Then turn off the ringer on my phone

My secret spot proves good today
many different, a good array
Will be tasty at dinner time
a touch of pepper and a zest of lime
Fried in batter without the bone

I pull the lines and drag back to shore
to face the busy week once more
School and work and family to tend,
The tragic loss of a family friend
Another long week of the unknown
