Went smelting last night with Loves to Fish and got a couple smelts. Here's the pics.

Hopefully turn a few of these into some great salmon out of Sebago! 8) 8) 8)

What are the rules/regulations for drop netting? Is this for only commercial bait dealers that hold the proper permitting?

Yes, you must buy a smelt wholesaler's license, around 70 bucks, and the state then gives you a list of waters that can be drop netted. You're allowed 8 quarts of smelts, per night, per license on these specified waters.
You must record all smelting activities, when, where, date, and how many smelt were harvested and by whom.
The record then must be turned in at the end of the smelting season to the Department of Inland, Fisheries and Wildlife. Those who don't turn in their list of smelting activities, are refused a new wholesaler's license the following year.
The big advantage to having a smelt wholesalers license for guys like me who do alot of fishing, you can keep all your smelts alive whereas a regular fishing license holder can only keep 5 dozen alive and the rest of their 2 quart limit must be killed at once.

was at the crooked lat year late evening and flashed my big halogen spot and it looked like that..

This guy really doesn't know us very well, Will. Eating smelts? I thought that was just for the salt water kind.

You can eat lobster and rib eye steak cheaper than you can eat smelts.

Do the math and see which one fills the belly faster and cheaper. 8) 8)

Nice catch guys you wouldn't happen to know where I could get a grader. I usually catch all I need with hook and line. Wanted to try a pond or two I've never tried a couple weeks ago. couldn't find my grader any help would be great?

Memphis Net and Twine. Go to there online catalog. Pretty pricey. $:-\$ But you got to have it. 8) 8)

Thanks Smeltslayer that's right the guy I bought that one from said they were expensive. If I take care of this one should last until they change the size.

Buy the whole unit grader and container and it should last a long time. Mine is going on 6 years now in in mint shape. It has seen a lot of use.
