I thought it went like this:

That's why they call it hunting, not killing. Or: That's why they call it fishing, not catching...

This is why we have vegetarians, or vegans...

Didn't know it was against the law to set traps, during open water?????    Looks like a great way to slow drift!

pic was taken down here in mass on the pond i have a camp on. two traps out and i think he was within the law unless the officer thought it was the same as jugging. they put up to 15 pound salmon broods in every fall, would have been funny watching the trap go off.

this question got posed a few years ago when we didn't have much safe ice even on the 1st..  you can't use any flotation device to "float a trap"  like foam board or something..  You have to have Ice underneath it.  it is legal to row a boat up to the ice, drill a hole on the edge and set the trap in the ice..

How about open water would it be legal to put two traps out on life rings. Have seen it done before and this post just got me thinking of it.
DUDE THAT'S A NICE FISH CAN I USE IT FOR BAIT?

Fish stories limited too 40'' or 40 minutes wich ever comes first.

The life rings would act like a barrel when you get a fish. Help slow the fish down and keep em from diving down. ;D

That is a good question about setting traps out somehow during the normal open water fishing season, I think it would be legal as long as they are monitored.  In fact when I was younger I can remember my grandfather would always take one pole and one ice trap with him fishing.  He would toss the trap line into the water and let a worm sit on bottom and then fish with the pole.   The trap would be set up on the dock or in a tree or wherever in a way that would allow the reel to turn and flag to go up if a fish took it.  Caught plenty of fish this way.  I'm pretty sure it is legal.  On the other hand if you were to just set one and not be in the immediate vicinity then I assume that would be considered the same as a "deadline" which is illegal.

Anyone else know.

I dont see why that would be elligal, i have thought about doin it many times, as long as he only has two traps in (Two line limit durrin open water)
