I've got some time today, as I put away the traps for the season. What a season its been!! When I found out that there was a season long ice fishing competition, I couldn't help myself - I had to see if I could catch some from each species and I've had a blast, doing it.

I've fished about 40 days, this season, on about 25 different bodies of water. I've been skunked, or caught shorts, or not-what-I-was-fishing-for fish on several trips, but I've also had some trips of a lifetime!! Met some great outdoorsmen, fished with some great friends and seen some beautiful sunrises, sunsets, mountains, snows, wildlife and got the truck/4-wheeler/snowmobile stuck more times than I'd like to remember.

Thanks to this site, I feel like I'm really starting to get the hang of several different types of icefishing.

I have been following your quest for a few weeks now and all I have to say is good job! You have caught some real nice fish this year.

I must say I'm impressed , but not surprised Scott. you have been on a quest for knowledge since you joined Team Maine . Nice to see it paying off for you .

Yes, Scott! "Quest for knowledge" says it best! Its like I've been going to ice fishing university ever since I found IceShanty.com!!

I hadn't ice fished for over 25 years, and had only fished for pickerel and bass as a kid. Everything I've learned about icefishing over the last 5 years has come from this site and guys I've met through this site.

...and on that note, let me add that MAINE IceShanty.com members are the most generous, helpful and knowledgeable outdoorsmen (and outdoorswomen) in the USA!!

Traps are all lubed and put up for the off season.... Vex and jig rod are still ready to go..... hmmmm.....

You are the man Scott. Those browns you caught recently are wicked nice. What is that thing hanging over you pack basket in the brown trout pic? You catch a beaver that day too???

Thanks, Tommy! I wish everyone could experience a day like Lloyd and I had Saturday! The browns (and a couple white perch) were biting like crazy!!! Sooo much fun!! The thing on the basket is my big camo coat.

Thanks, Lavaman! Tiny set up the rules to the IFOY competition and I set a goal of catching at least one of each species on the list. I ended up with at least 2 of every one except splake. I only caught one splake... Hmmmm, Tricky pond still has ice.... I have Wed. and Thursday off.... hmmmm...
