Dads - Not sure if you were being sarcastic or not, but the primary reason I went with the Jiffy was the good luck I had with my last one. I purchased it in 1983 and never had a problem with it. In fact, I gave it to a member of this site who was punching holes with it this winter until it was stolen.
Jiffy's are great augers but they can be a pain. I broke the switch on mine last weekend. Lucky for me it is broken in the on position. The intermittent stalling is a good thing, it's how I have been shutting it off...
I have one that im using and it runs like crap also i just smash it down on the ice a few times and it seam to come out of it try that !! make sure you keep an eye on the parts that fly off you'll need most of them again !
