Jiffy Stealth Auger Problems
« on: Mar 04, 2009, 07:00 AM »
Greetings All,

I'm looking for some assistance;  I have a 3 yr old Jiffy Stealth Auger that has recently stopped idling.   Walking between holes it will stall, then takes 5 - 10 pulls before it starts again.  Once running, it goes great.  The plug is good and the gas new.  Any ideas what could be causing this?   ???

Thanks in advance.

My 2 year old Stealth is doing the same thing.  Starves for fuel when running on full throttle also.  I spoke with the mecahnic and he said they need a new diaphram.  He has 4-5 in the shop all doing the same thing.

Not being mechanical I don't know if this is correct.

I'm just here to read what all the experts have to say.

Dads - Not sure if you were being sarcastic or not, but the primary reason I went with the Jiffy was the good luck I had with my last one.  I purchased it in 1983 and never had a problem with it.  In fact, I gave it to a member of this site who was punching holes with it this winter until it was stolen.

i have a 2yr. old mod. 30 that would run and cut good in warmer temps but would stall and bog at -0's. my buddy showed me how to turn up the high speed adjustment on it when its colder out and i i turn it back down come end of season. these new low emission carbs are like that now. my buddy has a stealth like you do and he does the same w/ his . no problems now. kind of a pain but takes about half a turn on the high speed needle and a few sec. to do and it makes one hell of a diff.! i would try that out before replacing the diaphram on such a new auger. good luck!

i have no issues with mine using the method described below to tune it.  also the manual say wait 2 seconds between each prime of the bulb, i have noticed this helps.  also my old jiffy when running the vibrations would open the vent hole, with my stealth i noticed that it is closing it instead....

Jiffy's are great augers but they can be a pain. I broke the switch on mine last weekend. Lucky for me it is broken in the on position. The intermittent stalling is a good thing, it's how I have been shutting it off...  :woot:

you'd be surprised how many of those parts that fly off you can replace with a pair of pliers, braided line, and fishing hooks.  My auger has the same amount of tackle on it as one of my traps.  ;D

If I let mine warm up it runs pretty good, if I try and use it cold I have to keep hitting the primer bulb to keep it going. To get it to run good warm I had to adjust the screw on the right about a quarter turn from factory setting. She really starts to rip after about 20 holes.  ;D

I bought my Jiffy 30 in 2000 and only changed the spark plug once just because I thought it was time. A little stubbon first thing in the morning but after some sweet talk she puts out.

a minimum of 30 second half choke idle is key to gettig it to run properly.
