I wont the lottery (of sorts) last Saturday. Shot my first ever Drake/hen wood duck combo then scored 3 (yes 3!) pairs of downhill skis - FREE!!!

I have an epic Smitty cooking in my head, will be sweet (I hope!)

Not hijack thread: Had the same thought, I have both ducks in the freezer right now, whole. Checked with the guy that did my muzzleloader buck in 2012 and he he gets $375 per duck.....that's $750 for the pair....going to thaw 'em and eat 'em and use those pretty feathers to pick my teeth after  ;D ;D

Hey smitty-You're beginning to get a cult following. Great engineering from the fellow icehead. Knocked one out in an afternoon for my one-man tub-style pop-up shack. Looks like it's gonna work awesome.

I just finished my first Smitty. It pulls great in the backyard, but I wish I had some snow to try it on.

So after having read all 64 pages of this thread, more than once! I finally made my own smith sled tonight. Took me about an hour, and being the resourceful pack rat that I am I made it for free. Everything I used I had on hand from old projects. I made the sled 48" wide to leave room on the side of my flip over for my auger to rest. And totally by accident I made 2 things happen. The slot that my sled sits on is just the right size that it kinda falls into it a little. No need to strap it down or anything. And the other thing was my cross braces were perfectly spaced (by accident mind you) for my ice auger to sit on. Kinda locks right into place. Being 4' wide it was kinda springy in the middle so I added a couple braces and used my Kreg pocket hole jig to tighten it up and it did. I can sit on the sled in my flip over easily! Anyways here is my version of the smith sled! Oh yeah I have a truck so taking it apart for transportation in a vehicle was not a concern for me

Yes and my son had to help check out the weight bearing capabilities of the cross braces as well! All It needs now is some paint

Thank you smitty. I have enjoyed reading your thread on the sled, and everyone else's adaptation of it. I have since added an upright so the auger rides in the horizontal position. And also painted the sled red. I'll post more pictures tonight. Now I'm just waiting on ice!

Well last year I picked up a 2 man flip I pulled by hand once and then only took it if I had a machine.
I have joined the "Smitty Sled" following. Mine is aluminum.

That is one sweet looking smitty sled. Does it come apart at all? I would think the curved pieces on the bottom just slip over the bolts.

HAha the frame came from a yard sale 5$ when I saw it lights started flashing in my head. It's an old car top carrier it came with straps and a really thick well made canvas bag.
The bag will be used to pack out deer I'm going to put it on a old aluminum frame pack. The pack took a crap years ago. I measured it by putting my deer in it and it all fit after it was quartered up.
The skis came from the salvation army at 10$ So now I have my 15$ back saver. Thank you smitty!!!! It took some work and allot of thinking to do it 24 beers and I got it done
