Bass Ponds near Portland?
« on: Jan 14, 2009, 12:48 PM »
Just wondering if anyone knows any good bass Ponds/Lakes near Portland.  Also is there anywhere close to Portland with Pike in it?  PM me if you don't want to post on here.  I want somewhere close for when I don't have much time.

I walked over there this summer thinking I would slay a huge bass because no one ever crosses over to it.  The vegetation was way to thick all the way around the pond, couldn't find a decent casting spot and the aquatic veg was just as thick.  It would be a serious pain trying to get bait, auger, traps under the bridge and along those rocks.  It would be a nice peaceful and quiet pond...

Drop your stuff off by car on the highway and have someone go park the car and walk over empty handed.  ;)

Never heard of Mild Pond.

You could always try Capisic Pond  ;D

But your best bet is Highland, Little Sebago, or Great Pond

Never heard of Mild Pond.

That's why it's good.

Capisic is good for trapping eels and tommies.

There's another place across from Smiling Hill Farm on county rd. in westbrook. You'll see an overgrown tote rd.Walk down that rd./trail and you'll see some old gravel pit ponds, they are loaded with largemouth.

I have fished Mild and got nothing . the only good place to cast is off the big rock mid way down the right side . That thing is chocked up with trash and vegetation . I don't think there is much for fish in it anymore . My father caught some fish out of it back in the 60s ,But I'm not to sure anymore . I think it was a list of crappie waters last year ,But I can't find that list ?
