SUBJECT    :Perch on Mendota
REPORTER : perch25
POSTED      : 14:36:12 03/10/2001
Fished yesterday, boy the perch are big(9-11in.).Caught 19 perch and 1 whitebass.Used a orange rocker for most fish down deep.Used a ratfinkee for fish higher up 20-40ft. The bite was constant early in morning then nothing after about 9:30. The bite picked up later around 2:30 until I left about 4:30. The deep water just on the west of gov. island produced for me.Again if you wern't watching the rod tip and jigging constant the bite wasn't there. Hopefully fish freak, you'll catch some fish today. I couldn't go today, wife took my truck today.Tight lines to all. perch25

Yeah I think I'll try this weekend also.I think between gov.island and the 4-doors would be a good start.I know a lot of perch run up the river to cherokee marsh to spawn.Several years ago I heard about them biting at the marsh.I think that is why we have a good year class now.I think this year should be the same with all the snow.I hope they're biting better than last week.See ya on the ice, tight lines,perch25.

Haven't been out in a while. Too busy. Will try this weekend for probably the last time on ice. Hope the cold holds out a bit yet.

Good to hear from Perch25. Love the reports! If work goes well, this week, I'll be out Saturday. May go out the 4 doors way. Try some different depths. Maybe they're moving in, hey? Moon phase at the peak in late week. Gotta try it! Tight lines!

I was in d&s bait store yesterday and a sign said no more shuttle service out on ice and I didn't see their shacks out there either.I wouldn't reccommend taking a small kid out there. The bite is too slow.My son got bored 2 weeks ago,not enough action. He's 12,so he's not small.Just walk out there, its great exercise and you might catch a few fish hopefully.Tight lines to all.perch25

SUBJECT    :fishing for perch
REPORTER : perch25
POSTED      : 18:39:34 03/02/2001
I went yesterday, took a day off work.Real slow all day.Caught 13 perch on ratfinkee(glow head/green body) with 3 spikes.I fished all day 7:30 to 5:00 no real good bite at all.I'm trying it tommorrow anyway, never know when the ice goes out.Talk to a few guys that got skunked.I think your right about the moon phases effecting the overall bite, fishfreak.I like to fish moon phases hard with approaching front moving in.Fast action when these two events come together.Yeah fish freak my second rod sits on a pail in 20-40' of water most of the time, attracks those bigger fish that cruise the water looking for those white water fleas.I just give it a pump or two every so often and sometimes change the depth little bit either up or down a few feet.Love catching jumbos!Yes I even caught one nice walleye and broke my line on a huge fish.Never know where they are swimming?I think attraction is the big part of catching these fish.Lots of pumping and changing depths all the time, then to get them to bite.LOL Lots of lookers and few takers.Good luck to all, tight lines perch25

POSTED      : 22:41:26 02/27/2001
Good to hear from you too, Perch25. I like to use my portable shanty two and do use two rods, most of the time as well. I find, I can get to the fish faster when they apear. If I use one rod, sometimes the fish go on by, while I'm still adjusting my depth. Give a try the #14 orange or black for those tough bottom fish. You might get bit off every now and then though with the occational walleye right on the bottom. It's happened to me a few times.

Let me know how you do. This is my busy week, so I can't get out, but I will be out next week. There's a new moon phase you know.;) Tight lines to all.

SUBJECT    :perch jigs&jigging
REPORTER : perch25
POSTED      : 19:29:21 02/27/2001
Yeah good to hear your post fishfreak. The rocker is just painted purple. My jigging technique is real steady and just a nervous twiching.Coffee jag!Sometimes yah it pays to change up and speed up or just put the rod down for several min. and the fish appear.I also use two rods, one rod at 20-30ft. just in case those big suspended schools come in and the other at about 10ft. above bottom.I alternate between rods, jigging them so one is always moving and the other is stationary. One move thing ,these deep perch seem to bite best on sunny days,I've notice over the years. Also I fish in a shelter so I can notice any movement of my rod tip, either up or down.Yes I've seen my rod tip go up even with all the weight.Hey tight lines to all and keep posting fish freak,I enjoy your posts!!I'll be out later this week.

Perch25. Are the purple rockers, those new plastic, see-through things or just painted purple? I went out on Sat. off gov. island to try something different. Went for a few hours and caught 4 perch and one white bass. Green glow rat fink didn't produce. Wind made it tough, but changed bait to a glow bug looking jig and that did the trick. Didn't have much more time, so had to take off.

I take it, you're barely moving the tip of your rod, eh? Me too, but I've found on occation that they will hammer it, if I move the tip 1/4" constantly and somewhat fast. I caught 6 within and hour at the end of the day, a couple weeks ago. I also down sized. Got those on the bottom to bite!! Good luck.

I did get out on 2/15 in 72' of water. Very slow, light bite. A couple big schools came by, but nothing took the bait. Caught 4 very nice perch and a 16" white bass. Used black dot rockers and orange. Chartues couldn't get a bite. Missed a few. Most bites on bottom. Must have had an eye or two bite on bottom. They bit off my black rockers.

Haven't been out sense, but will be out this Sat. Tight lines and good luck.
