Started the new year in fine style yesterday. The ice wasa 3.5 to 4 in. on the northern cove, but with open water in the middle, caution would be advisible. Iced several trout between 2:30- 5:00; all on jigs tipped with waxies. Kept only one, as most were 10-10.5 in.(keeper was a taped foot) A welcome change from the all to common skunkings at Scotts Run! Can't wait to get out on Marsh Creek and Hopewell for some big fish. Good luck all; be safe out there!

Spikes are amsller and tougher than waxies and are maggots Waxies are a bee moth lavae that infiltrate bee hives and destroy the hive. New york uses spikes alot more than waxies for Panfish I prefer the waxies.

Trout were stocked in the lake this week.....they were on the attck but seemed to turn off as I pulled in the parking lot........One fish for the 6 hours I was there.....not one flag either.....poor outing...the one that was caught, fell for the jiggin' rap w/ waxie tip.....and was promptly released!

Fished from late morning to near dark in breezy, snowy conditions. Landed many bass; mostly chunky specimens- averaging about 15 inches. Tip-ups and shiners were the hot ticket; all the fish were released. The cove had five and one half inches of good clear ice and, the lake was iced clear across. My second great outing at this lake this season! Next time I'll spend more time looking for jumbo perch.

Spent a few hours on the ice with nothing to show for it except one small blue-gill and a nice size perch. Both fell victim to the jigging rapala (smaller the better) tipped with a waxie....
Are spikes the same thing as waxies????
