Perch, Bluegills, Crappie and Northern

SUBJECT    :L.St.Clair-Mitchell'sBay Report.....Windy TGIF!!!!
REPORTER : Bass Haven
POSTED      : 19:08:39 02/02/2001
Fish and fishermen were a hard thing to find out there today, but there was a few of both!!!....Tomorrow I would give the 11-12', well away from the noise, at St.Luke's a try....good quality fish there yesterday and not bad numbers today.....looks to be getting a little better day by day!!!....and the deeper water will stay cleaner, longer!!!....One other spot, if it will stay clean, would be the MiddleGrounds out in front of "The Haven"!!!....It seemed to be improving a little every day and this afternoon some high quality Bluegills showed there faces, along with some medium+ Sunny's....drilling holes is the key....so is noise....after all there is less than 3' of water under the ice!!!!!....St.Anne's Bay is a given, if you have a way to get there, although it has been very spotty this week!!!....If the inner bay is dirty tomorrow you will need to get to at least 10'+ water and more likely 12' to find clean water!!!....Both the Thames and Sydenham Rivers are in big trouble and I would strongly advise staying well clear of both rivers!!!....There is far to much current and dirty water cutting that ice from the underside to be safe!!!....At Rondeau Bay, they're experiencing much the same....lots of sorting for quality!!!....Pike fishermen take note both Rondeau and St.Anne's are loaded with big Northerns!!!

Another good day for the fish, and that's 2 tough ones in a row for fishermen!!!....With it being such a nice weather day and hundreds of people stretched between BassHaven and St.Luke's, on 10-14" of ice, you'd have thought someone would have had some really good news about a strong bite, but it wasn't to be!!....Although most everyone had a few Perch, numbers were light and quality was borderline!!....Panfish was also very slow and spotty out in front, in the Middle Grounds and Legue's Bay!!...."Take A Kid Fishin'" when you get a chance!!!....Have a Happy and Prosperous New Year everyone!!!....Regards....Dennis

We're still being hammered by strong winds, whiteouts and severe wind chills!!....Very few, and I mean FEW ice fishermen drilled any holes today....conditions were just to severe!!!....The one good thing about it is that we're absolutely making lots of ice!!!....and that's a good thing!!!....I hope we get enough ice to survive the January thaw that always comes along!!....Earlier in the week some good quality Perch were taken in 14' out from St.Luke's, also 3' out from the Public Access, to the left in Legue's Bay!...Most areas have 6-8" of ice and pressure cracks haven't formed yet!!....Tomorrow looks like a good day to drill holes!!!....Hardwater Wishes and Holiday Regards....Dennis

"Bay" ice survived last night's severe winds and storm pretty much in one piece!!....Although it has from 4-6" of slush on it, the continued cold in the forecast should tighten that up enough to make "Walking Ice" by the weekend!!....I HOPE!!!....For additional Lake St.Clair Ice info check www.basshavencanada.com/frozenswamp
