I am ice fishing on Lake Hopatcong since 1988. This year ice fishing was possible since January 1 till February 17. Best places: State park, 200-300 yards from shore; Henderson cove (parking by Post Office), 50-200 yards from shore; near Bertrand Island, 50-200 yards South from Island. Catch: Yellow Perch 8-12 inches, Crappie, Pickerel, sometimes Bass. Walleye this year was not present at these places-shallow (5-7 feet) with submerged vegetation. Deep places was not covered by ice. Lures: Perch Superglider #3 and #4; Walleye Superglider #1, #2 and #3. No additional bait, bare hook. Average catch: 15-25 Yellow Perches 8-12 inches, 1-3 Pickerels 15-22 inches, 1-2 Basses 15-20 inches. Last years I am using ice fishing technique and equipment including ice fishing lures for vertical fishin from boat. Catch the same as through ice plus sometimes 1-2 Walleyes.
Lake Hopatcong located near Hwy 80, Exit 28.

Just found out about this site and thought I would put my 2 cents worth in. I am not bragging and I do not get off on bragging, I keep it humble. My son Warren and I caught over 400 yellow perch to 12 and 1/2 inches this year at the big Lake. Also caught over 200 bluegill to adult hand size this year. We love are icefishing and are very glad other people do not care for the cold and ice fishing. Yesterday 2/24/2001 caught 25 nice size perch and jigged up a 24 inch 4 pound pickeral on a Dave Genz Berkley ice rod and 2 pound test line. What a great fight and we got him up and out the hole. I hope everyone else and a good season. It could be ending in a couple of weeks. Take care

Good day on Hopatcong today! Fished from 8:30 to 3:30 and jigged up about 2 dozen nice sized perch,a 12 inch largemouth, and 4 hand sized bluegills. My friend caught a monster 25 inch 5 pound pickeril on a tip up with shiners. Tip up fishing was slow with only 2 perch caught and a few pickeril.good luck.

Well I cant believe I even went out on the ice on Lake Hopatcong today! Gail force winds that were up to 50 mph out on the lake. The tip ups held up suprisingly to the heavy winds, I caught 4 pickeril not very big on tip ups with shiners, and one small perch on a tear drop jig tipped with a fat head. My friend caught 6 perch on a tear drop jig tipped with mousees. Had to leave early because of the winds and the action died to nothing around 11 anyway. Ice is stilla good 11 inches thick. GOOD LUCK ON THE HARD WATER!
