crappies

SUBJECT    :Crappies
REPORTER : MJ5
POSTED      : 13:07:08 01/16/2002
Linwood is full of crappies. Most of which don't exceed 10 inches, but there are some slabs in the lake. Start of at early ice fishing the south part of the lake at 20 feet of water. Once ice fishermen get out it may get packed fast. Use maggots and minnows on small teardrops. Fishing tends to start at about 4pm. During midwinter you can still find crappies roaming the 20 foot areas but will be more finicky. Look west towards the 10 and 13 foot saddles that jet towards the deep hole. Schools of crappies tend to congregate near these areas as well as bluegills. Late ice will bring about a fury of action. Look near the edges of the deep holes and on the west point for hot action. Don't be surprised if you hook into a walleye while fishing for crappies, walleyes are present.
