We did have some great fishing & catching over the weekend even in the cold front. We did see a lot of limits in the 9” to 11” range with some report os 12” to 13” (didn’t get to see them).Center bar, the Humps and Sugar bar was the best areas. Fish from 20’ to 24’ all day. On Sugar fish close to the ice ridge and on the drop at 24’. The fire-eye-minnow, buckshot rattle spoon & angel eye in the fire tiger or perch colors are still HOT. Use just the head on the minnow and work the spoon to get some action. We still have 32+’ of ice and still making ice. I do look for the action to move to the shallows by next weekend and the ice to stay good into April.

We had some mixed reports this last weekend with some getting a limit by noon and some had a hard time getting on the Perch. Moses bar at the south end, Center bar from the point west, backside of Long bar & Rebel hump produced the best action. Fish from 20' to 30' and move, move, move tell you get on them. The Perch are not schooled up yet. The Angel eye or the Fire-eye-Minnow is the best bet. Firetiger or chart/glow is the colors. The Buck shot Rattlen spoon is HOT just be ready for some Northern action with the Perch. Our ice is still in great shape and driving to all the bars.

02/11/02 we had mixed reports this weekend. The fisherman that did the best kept moving tell they got on the Perch. I went out Sat with Rick Grubebele for just a short time. Rick had the hot hands with 2 Walleye, 2 Northerns and some Perch. We also had a lot of buckets of 9” to 11” Perch come in. South end of Moses bar, in front of the west Winnie summer homes, Reble hump and some of the other small humps produced the best. Fish
20’ to 24’ with a Fire-eye minnow (firetiger/glow back) or angel eye bronze back. Tip with just the head of the fathead minnow. Ice is still in great shape with 30”+ and little snow cover. Watch the
weather and if we get stable weather drop what ever you are doing and come on up for some great action.

Our ice is in great shape with 25"+ over most of the lake. Watch out in front of any inlets or outlets as the ice will be thinner because of the moving water. Moses bar and the back side of moses been hot. Snag hole bar on the north end is very good. Sugar bar from the middle to the east end. Been some nice eater Walleyes in the 14" to 16" been coming off Moses bar in the mornings on the south end. Perch been most of the day and keep moving tell you get on them. Fish 17' to 20' at day brake then move keep going deeper as the day goes on, 35' deep is far enough. Then move back up on the bar later in the day. The fire-eye minnow, Buck-Shot rattle spoons and the Angel-eye are doing the best.Best colors are the FIRETIGER, glow perch or the perch, gold mid day. Tip the spoons with a fathead minnow whole or just use 1/2 a fathead.

Good luck and see you on Big Winnie.

We now have 23" + over most of the lake. Watch out for any water spots in the snow and in front of any inlets. We did have a pickup drop the front in a crack that only had 2" over it. Fire-eye minnow (perch or chart colors)or a angel eye (pink glow or perch bronz color. Tip them with a full fathead minnow tell the school comes in then use just half a minnow. areas. A person can still get around the cracks ok.
Perch is still doing great in the shallows. Walleye,
Northern and some Perch are on the bars. If any changes
in the lake occur I will post an update.

12/8/02 A person can get around the lake now with ATVS anywhere you want to go. Stay away from all inlets and
outlets, with the water movement the ice can still be thin in that area. Ice thickness is running from 12” to 14”. The shallows by the mouth of the Mississippi to the mouth of Sugar Lake are still producing some nice Perch and Northern. Fish from 7’ to 8 ½’ with a buckshot rattling spoon or a fire eye minnow. Best colors are fire tiger, gold or chart. Tip the hook with a half a fathead minnow. Snag is starting to go again in 19’ to 24’. Use the same jigging spoons for best results. Will post an update Thursday night. With the weather that is moving in things can change.

12/28/01 WINNIE IS MAKING ICE. We now have 8” of ice on Snag Hole Bar and we are putting some of our liter house out with the Argo. Will be checking out Moses Bar by the weekend. Northern are still running good off the West Winnie Campgrounds and east of the Mississippi river in 7’ to 8’ of water. 1’ to 10” of ice in that area. Perch action is still going great in the same areas. Use a fire tiger or a glow fire-eye minnow tipped with a fathead. The buck Shot-rattling spoon
has brought in some dandy Northern, 33” the biggest so far. Yesterday was the first day fishing on Sang Hole bar and got mixed reports. The best reports came from the 18’ to 23’ depths. I did see a 20” and a 24” Walleye caught in 20 min. Got busy setting houses so not
sure what else went on. Another group had a lot of Perch in the buckets fishing at the same depths. Use the larger jigging spoons in the deeper water. If the weather stays cold like it is now we should be driving out some time next week. Stay away from the mouths of all inlets or outlets, as the ice WILL be thin. Ask any resort where the ice is the best. Remember NO ice is
totally safe.

After that we only have 3” of ice. Still some open water in the southeast side of the lake. Great Northern and Perch action going on from the mouth of the Mississippi to the opening in Sugar lake. Fish from 7’ to 9’ of water. We are getting some snow tonight but the weather will be getting colder so this help make ice. Hopefully by mid week we should be getting out to some of the bars. Happy Holidays.

8" (I was told this). Here on the west side it will take more cold days. We have 8"to 9" out about 1/8 mile then new ice (never went out to check how thick).
Give us some cold windless days and we should be getting out on the west side. Had 39 degrees Sunday So this will not help much. A cold front moving in this week so this should help. We will be putting our
dark houses out Monday morning.

Another year of great fishing & catching
on open water, now it’s time to think of ice
fishing. For the hardy fishermen Walleye and Perch
are going on Stony Point on the west side in the
rocks. Use a 1/8 oz fire tiger fireball jig tipped
with a fathead minnow. Doug outs on the rocks next
to shore and fish the edge of the rocks in 7’ of
water. Use the same set up here.
Cut Foot just east of Bowen’s landing next to the
bull rushes in 7’ to 12’. The bull rushes on
either side of the gap. The best bait is a crawler
on a short Roach rig 24” long or a 1/8oz fireball
jig chart/lime tipped with a fat head minnow.
Perch are going great in all the same spots.
This will be my last report tell the last part of
Nov. I will be giving out ice conditions at this
time. Thank you all for following our reports and
will be seeing you on Big Winnie.
