Has anyone caught anything big on accident. Any northerns or bass? I just want to hear a fish story. Last year my grandpa snagged a muskrat through the ice on accident.

Fished one of the channels on Van Auken this morning. Got a dozen nice crappies on spikes. Saw other fisherman getting their limits. Ice is about 3 inches thick. Pretty crowded as this is probably the only lake fishable through the ice in the area.

Just talked to a guy who has been hammering the crappies on the channels for days. Says the ice is 3 to 4 inches thick and that most everyone he saw out there on the weekend got their limits. I get off work at 4 a.m. and plan heading up there.

BEEN CHECKING THE BOARD REGULARY.MIDDLE OF JANUARY THERE WAS 2 INCHES OF ICE AND WE WERE HAMMERING THE BLUEGILLS IN THE CHANNEL.AS FAR AS I KNOW THE WARM WEATHER HAS MADE THE ICE UNSAFE IN VAN BUREN AND BERRIEN COUNTIES.DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW THICK THE ICE IS? WHERE CAN I FISH SAFELY?

Well, I fished Van Auken on Sunday the 13th with ice jigs tipped with spikes. I worked both ends of the east channel with only two decent bluegills to show for it. However, I did see to fisherman catch quite a few crappie and bluegills right near the mouth of the channel. I believe they were on top of a weed edge. I myself didn't venture that far because they were on some very thin ice. I hope to go back soon and post another report. Tight Lines

This is my first time to this site. I hope that others will find this site and post here. I fish van auken whenever I get the chance. I'm hoping to do some ice fishing this weekend and was wondering if the ice is still good after the little warm up. If anyone can let me Know if it is and if the crappie are still biting, it would be great. Thank you, tight lines.
