wE ARE TRYING BIG CROKED LAKE IN LAC DU flambeau, wi. We have a good map of the lake. On Sat of this week we set out over 15 tip ups in 5feet to 20feet of water by a rock bar and a weed bed. We set up at 3P.M and came in off the ice around 9P.M. and not a flag. the lake is land locked and over 400 acres in size. Its a clear lake. The locals say it is suppose to be a good fishing lake. So what are we doing wrong???? |

Posted At 20:26:53 12/28/2000 When I am fishing with tilts or jigs I have always found that if you don't get a hit on a tilt in 30 min. move it. If you don't get a hit jigging in 2 min. move. I have started on one side of a lake and finnished on the other. Unless a spot has proven itself to you in the past, keep moving until you find the fish. Would you anchor a boat to one spot for all that time, if you were not catching fish? Yes it is more work, but that is why 10% of the fisherman catch 90% of the fish. I hope that helps. Tight Lines and a great new year! |

Posted At 01:30:13 12/31/2000 Seems to me that the pike hit the shallower waters during the ice-up situation. Especially weed beds that are around 1-3 foot deep and then drop off rapidly after that point. |

Posted At 19:56:37 01/23/2001 Find the bait fish (ususally in the weeds) and fish the deep edge of those weeds for pike. U mentioned a rock bar and u were fishing at night. the top may be good if there is a good forage base there. tight lines, aye Gerry |

Posted At 13:17:01 01/31/2002 Could of been a bait problem. What were you using? Dead smelt, in my mind, is the #1 bait of all time. When I'm having a slow day, I lift my minnows every half hour or so and then put them back down. This gives them a second wind and more movement. Also, was there any snow on the ice? Clear lakes make a tough day of fishing due to sunlight and the fish won't bite as good when the barometer is on the rise. Causes to much pressure in there heads and they will sit idle. Good luck and stay on top |

Posted At 09:43:14 02/07/2002 if you fish your holes, and after finishing a six-pack and still no bites, try moving to a new hole; or go to the liquor store and buy more beer. |
