Living in Alberta Canada (and fishing were it does get cold -40C=-40F )I've never had a problem with polar ice tip ups. Mind you I have an eight inch ice auger. But I know quite a few folks that have ten inch augers (no problems reported). When it does get cold going around and cleaning the holes every fifteen minutes or so is very important (when it is very cold or the snow is blowing, hole cleaning may need to be done more often). Times like these (when the holes need cleaning more)are the best times to bring along the wife and kids. Just kidding!
