Ray, I prefer trebles for pike,I tried single hooks for a couple of years and lost more fish than I ever did with trebles. Hook preference for me are eagle claw lazers #2 in nickel finish, also use a wire leader.
I tried the heavy mono leaders for a while and found the bigger the pike the faster they'd cut the mono up.
Good luck, trapper

Ouch, I keep forgetting this is not a site specific thing, yes I use larger hooks than some, but i'm fishing off lake ontario. Our min. pike are 22" went to the larger hooks after fishing up in st. lawrence area for a few years (bass were a problem there)and not leagal to keep. And yes some small pike will drop with the larger hooks but the big ones don't seem to care, bass will drop right away at feeling the hook, leaving the bait scarred but alive (somtimes that's better) I agree 100% with the smaller hook theory but it will depend on where you are and what you're after.
Start small you can always go up but if they drop it you'll never know. good luck, trapper
