i use an 18" piece of 30# mono line with a #10 treble attached. works great for northern and walleye. keep an eye on leader after each fish. the pikes teeth will sometimes weaken them just run through your fingers if it feels rough simply cut a new leader.i have landed up to 25# pike with these without a problem! Good Luck

It's unfair to fishermen and fish to target pike ANYTIME without a WIRE leader.

They don't inhibit the the number of strikes you get, especially when you can locate fish consistently.

You might get lucky with fused line/heavy mono but trust me, it will run out. It'll only take one big fish (anysize pike can ship line though) to get you back on steel leaders.

You don't want a lake filled with pike with braces, either.

spiderwire works awesome on pike and walleye. it's tough and the fish don't seem to notice it.

use fluorocarbon, very stealthy and just ast stong as spiderwire. had a big snag in the reeds when a fish dropped the bait, so i just started wrenching on the line, and believe it or not, my 25 lb dacron snapped before my 14 fluoro did. thought for sure id pull up half a leader, but instead only broken dacron.

I use 30 test fireline and it works great. And I save my old fireline from the summer and use it for my leaders in the winter and it saves money. the fireline
is good for those cold days because it dose not ice up
like other lines.
