In the lakes and rivers which I frequent I seldom fish in water deeper than 12' and alot shallower as the season moves into March.I have experimented with different leader materials such as steel and have found I get more fish on plain old mono.I use treble hooks and seldom larger than size"6.I have caught pike up to 22lbs on 14lb.mono and "8 size trebles. When I set the hook I do so with a continuous sweep and as soon as I feel them take off I let the line slip through my thumb and index finger. They might make as many as 10 runs before you bring them home.I know many will disagree but keep an open mind and give it a try.Over 20years I have consistantly landed fish over 15lbs with mono.
