Posted At 10:27:07 12/31/2001 I use pretty well the same handful of jigs for all of the above species. The only differences are in size, weight and colour, depending on whay I'm going for. For example, my perch jigs are a lot like my walleye jigs, only smaller. -Williams Wobbler/Whitefish -Little Cleo -Mr.Champ, Kastmaster -Swedish Pimple -Walleye Hawger -Rocker Minnow -Cicada, Sonar -Jiggin' Rapala -leadhead jig+tube/twister Always tip with some form of livebait. -live minnows -dead minnows -pieces of minnow/fish -grubs/insect larvae. GOOD LUCK! |

Posted At 01:44:37 01/03/2002 Tosten, for panfish and trout, my go to jigs are Custom Jigs & Spins Demons size 8 yellow/orange glow and Lindy Little Joe Fat Boys size 6 on glow orange or glow chartreuse on 4 or 2 pound test line. Tip them with one waxworm or 2 maggots for best results on crappies, gills and perch. Small minnows work well also for slab crappies. Jig them about a foot off the bottom and you can't go wrong. If you have access to a flasher (sonar), then you can fish for the suspended fish. They retail for less than $1.00 each. Also, when bait is scarce, I've done well using the Custom Jigs & Spins Finesse Tails (Ratso and Shrimpo tails) rigged on 1/80 oz. jigheads in tandem (two or 3 tied onto your line). Hope this helps, good luck! |

Posted At 01:50:44 01/03/2002 Tosten, for panfish and trout, try using size 6 Lindy Little Joe Fat Boys in glow orange or glow chartreuse, or size 8 Custom Jigs & Spins Demons in glow yellow/orange tipped with maggots or wax worms. Use light line (2 or 4 lb. test) and aggressively jig them a foot off the bottom for best results. If you have access to use of a flasher (sonar), then that will help you find suspended fish. These jigs sell for less than a dollar each. Also, Custom Jigs & Spins finesse tails (Ratso and/or Shrimpo tails) in the glow colors work well on 1/80 oz. jigheads when bait is scarce, sometimes better than bait. They are about $1.20 for a ten pack. Hope this helps you catch a few more fish. |

Posted At 20:24:45 01/05/2002 I have found that the best jigs for are fishing are moon jigs they glow in the water and the are only around 1 dollor. I use one with a greeb top and a white bottom with a red dot on it the top green side has gold specks all over it. I use those jigs on crappie blue gils perch. For pike I use just a plain treble hook with a pike minnow. i put a egg sinker 1 - 2 feet from the hook and drop the line all the way to the bottom and that gives the minnow room to swim around. i put the pike rig all on a tip up. |

Posted At 18:08:05 01/07/2002 You cant go wrong with the swedish pimple. Play with the sizes and you have a jig for all the species listed. Also works on open water when vertical jigging from a boat, especially on deep water perch and trout. A teardrop jig, very cheap. 2 for a buck, tipped with a moussie or spike is deadly on panfish. |

Posted At 15:04:53 01/15/2002 You can't go wrong with live bait. Many tournaments have outlawed live-bait because its so effective (cuts into the sponsers pockets). The tips already given are good ones. I usually fish for panfish and a teardrop is great; everyone has their favorite. My favorite is a white Russian Spoon with a red dot and a waxworm. The current Michigan favorite seems to be a Moonglow, a two tone green with glitter. I recently learned not to pump gas on your way out |
