Paul I mostly caught my lakers on smelt-because this was the prevalent bait fish.I hooked the bait thru the mouth and out the top of the head.I jigged about 5 ft off bottom-using a slow pumping action.I would do this for maybe 10 seconds and let the jig settle.After maybe a minute or so I would repeat and it has worked for me!Good Luck, Doug
