I like to use a super light graphite with a whippy tip for jiggin.on the business end i've had my best luck with a #10 green and yellow glitter glo baited with 2 red spikes hooked just below the 2 dots opposite the pointed end of the spike when jigged the spikes look a lot like the tail of a fish fluttering in the water and i can out fish my fishing buddys on most any given day try it it really works. |

Posted At 13:48:37 08/23/2000 Panfish: Shallow water, I like the simple fibergalss rods with the wind-wheel reels, and a slip bobber. Deep water- I use a 24-30 inch rod, and ultralight spinning reels I like chartreuse or red or pearl or hot pink for colors, combination of these and so forth. I still believe in the theory that you'll catch more on a bait that you're confident in! For larger fish, I jig alot of Swedish pimples( I swear they'll catch most anything!) in various sizes and colors, depending on species, and tend to stick with a medium action rod. Good fishing |

Posted At 18:24:53 10/28/2000 I jig mostly for panfish and perch in particular when I can and prefer light but not whippy rods with ultra light reels and 4# test. I use a spring bobber on the rod to detect the strikes and find the extra stiffness of the rod helps set the hook when fishing deep. As for lures I've had luck with everthing from Swedish pimples and glo in the dark rockers to my all time secret weapon(all right not all that secret)the Rat Finky in assorted sizes and colors, with chartruese being the best all around choice. Good Luck |

Posted At 18:38:25 10/28/2000 Most of my fishing is for panfish, and perch in particular. I like light weight graphite rods, ultra light reels spooled with 4# Magna Thin or the like. The rods have spring bobbers to detect the strikes. A little stiffer rod helps set the hook when fishing deeper water, over 20 ft. As for lures I've found everything from Swedish Pimples to glo in the dark rockers work in the right conditions but my secret weapon(all right maybe not so secret) is the Rat Finky in assorted sizes and colors tipped with about 3 spikes (maggots to the uninitiated but wives prefer spikes). If I could only have one color it would be chartreuse. |

Posted At 11:36:28 12/01/2000 For perch fishing: I like to use a red fire-eye jig and on the tip of that I like to use eather a perch eye, a small pinhead minnow, or a magot (wax worm) |

Posted At 02:59:38 02/01/2001 I have pretty much given up on my rod and reel other than a line holder for handlining. Even during a hot bite, when the fish are aggressive, I've found that I can usually up my hook-ups significantly by getting off my chair, getting my face close to the hole and slowly swimming the line around the hole or slowly jigging. By watching the moving line I can detect visual strikes I would not normally see and by holding the line with bare hands I can feel them "breathe" on my jig/bait combo. I keep a handwarmer in each coat pocket and alternate jigging hands to keep my hands from freezing. Yeah, you'll look silly down that close to the ice but the people around you will quite laughing when you triple their catch. |
