I have found that using a jig on the bottom of your line. Followed by a nymph just up from that about four inches. Then about a foot up from that another nymph. followed by a nymph two foot up from that works the best for any type of panfish. By useing this method it alows me to fish different depths at the same time. Most of my fishing is done in about eight to ten feet of water.

Dear Luke...We have used a similar technique with our spring/summer fishing, however, it was 'dry' flies that we've used and , even then, they were sprayed with floatant...Is there an advantage to using the 'nymphs' ?
I've also never thought of useing more than one fly any furthur than 1 foot up from the minnow...kinda like the idea...
How long of 'leaders' do you use on the flys further up the line to decrease the potential for tangles...
Appreciate your input...Best Wishes for Fishes...

Ican tell you this. when there are people fishing right around you and there not catching anything in any numbers and you got your pall full. I guess you could say theres an advantage. the flys are attached right to your main line with a not I learned from ocean fishing. I don't know what it's called but when you tie it right. You will have loops hanging off your line.

We've used similar tactics here in VT for perch on Lake Champlain. We've always used a jig at the bottom and a yellow colored wet fly farther up. Be careful though, because our game laws limit the number of flys / baits per line.

While looking thru books on fishing at the mall bookstore,I found out how to tie what is called a "dropper loop" or "loop knot" which is used to tie on multiple hooks, jigs etc.one above the other.
It is tied by forming an "O" shaped loop of the desired size and pinching the lines together between the thumb and index finger at the bottom of the "O" loop.
Then take the long end(the tag end)of the line and pass it thru the"O" loop 7 times .Next(I used a fine crochet hook)reach thru the middle of twists and pull the top of the "O" loop thru the twists and pull up the line on both sides to tighten the knot and form a perfect loop that stands at a right angle to the main line.
Sounds complicated but is easy when you actually try
it.
Good fishin....
