Deep water perch anglers may know, 10yrs. ago fising Oneida lake we used a small 7/16" dia. piece of surgical tubing to keep a free sliding bobber for fishing deep water allowing the angler to get the bait back down fast and use the rod and reel to bring fish up while keeping the same depth. Unfortunately here in NY not many target deep perch and these little wonders are'nt available here, anyone with info. or even a ph.# on where to purchase would be great. |

Posted At 22:11:44 01/12/2002 Hello Trapper.....We've been using eagle claw rubber and bead combo's that we buy at k-mart, however, even tho they are marked for 2-4, and 4-6 pound line, they do not prevent the slip thru balsa bobbers from running up our lines....so I've started tieing an overhand knot on the rubber piece....and it's worked fairly well...if the knot tension is just right... HOWEVER, I DO NOT INTEND TO BUY THESE BUGGERS any longer.....when I'm out....I'm out...so.. I've been wondering about a new method....was even thinking about simply tieing a knot on the bare line ( without the rubber under the knot ) but I think repositioning the stopper would/may become difficult. FINALLY TO THE POINT.......I was wondering if you could describe your technique in a bit more detail...I don't follow where you use the surgical tubing...on the line ? Wouldn't that diameter " hang up " in the rods eyes ? I'll check with a friend about the tubing you are looking for and if obtainable, will mail some to you... IF ANYONE ELSE HAS SUGGESTIONS ON BOBBER STOPS FOR SLIP BOBBERS ON LITE TO ULTRALITE LINE...2-4 POUND TEST I WOULD CERTAINLY APPRECIATE HEARING YOUR IDEAS... Best wishes for fishes........" 2new2ice " |

Posted At 09:20:53 01/14/2002 2new2ice, Sorry I was'nt more descriptive, here goes. These little bands are approx. like the ones girls use for putting hair up in pony or pig tails only much smaller. To put them on the line you simply half hitch them (fishing line vertical-band horiz. one end of band through the other) this makes it easy even below zero. They are easily adj. up or down this way. It's surgical tubing for sure I THINK it's the stuff they tie on your arm for blood press. ck's they're cut 1mm thick off the end of the tubing (tube apprx.10mm).Now for the tip! Use a round plastic bobber that opens to freeslide down to the lure, BE SURE the bobber sinks from the weight of the lure, not fast but not neutral bouyancy either. This will allow you to detect the larger fish that often hit from underneath (bobber comes up rather than down) or just mouth it bobber stops movement. Of course keep your rod eyes from freezing solid and as much ice off the line as possible, *easy to do when the bobber sinks! and lets you vary depth at the same time, from time to time you will have to change "stops" but with this type some have lasted as long as 3wks.(500 or so fish)also I use regular ultra-lite rods (no large eyes on the rod) and only rarely encounter a problem. hand-over-hand on 30ft. of water's no fun and draws way too much attention!! Tight Lines!, thanks for the reply and good luck!! If 'ya find 'um or make 'um let me know, click on the blue trapperjon at the top of the page to e-mail me! |

Re: HELP looking for bobber stops (Currently 0 replies)
Posted At 22:17:26 02/04/2002 there is a way you can tie your own bobber stops with dacrone line. it is quite simple and easy. the way to tie it though is quite hard to explan though, if you would want me to send you pictures or something on how to, send me an email. gooten84@hotmail.com. all you do is tie a some what easy knot on a drinking straw with the dacrone line, then put your line through the straw and push the knot off of the straw onto your line. then you would take the two ends of line of the knot and pull them tight so knot is tight on your line. it hold you bobber and you can also slide it up and down your line to adjust the depth. sorry if you don't understand, it is sorta hard to discribe with words, and not pictures. trust me it is very easy though cuz i'm 17 and i can easy tie one with in seconds. |

Posted At 15:07:15 02/17/2002 I saw a kit in a sporting goods store where Thill Bobbers are displayed. It contained all of the supplies and instructions to tie 100 bobber stops like the ones described in the post concerning straws and dacron line for tying your own. Good fishin...... |
