They're unreal for any fish that can be caught on live or dead bait. You'll find that they perform best with either a single hook and shot or small jig. It's all about getting the rig balanced so that the wind can work it. Be aware, they don't actually 'jig' a bait, so adding a heavy spoon would render the arm baiscally stationary and therefore useless. Rather, the shifts in wind patterns cause the arm to lift and drop the line in a cadence anywhere from once every 15 minutes to several times a minute. It all depends on how you've got it place, the bend you put in the fin, where you set the spring slider and most crucially, how you've balanced it with the weight and bait below the ice.
