I want to buy a portable ice shack that would fit two people comfortably. Any suggestions if I should go with a Frabill or another brand? I don't have a snowmobile or ATV to get in on the ice. |

Posted At 09:20:18 01/09/2002 Hi Shawn, There are many choices out there and they can get confusing.Wieght is a big issue since you said you would be taking it by foot.Price is another issue.I think you get the picture.I personally checked a few two man models and I liked the Guide(FishTrap). But as I said that was my preferance -you may like something else. Good luck, Doug >))))> |

Posted At 16:17:57 01/09/2002 Dear SHAWN, DOUG,....sorry I can't help you but, if and when you find something you like please post here where I could go to see the product...magazine, store, internet, etc. I am interested in something on the inexpensive side, as well as portable, probably something as simple as a wind-break. Just something that will enable me to sit with my daughter and keep the wind / elements off. Thanks and good luck,...signed...." 2new2ice " |

Posted At 18:15:10 01/09/2002 I just bought a HT Enterprise " polar X-press " one man model. I've used it three times in the past ten day's. It's excellent. Sets up real simple, easy for one man to pull with gear. Best of all you can sit two people in it. It's not somthing you want to sit in togather for a long time but its good for eating or taking a brake from the wind. they have a web page HT enterprise.com or some thing close. Good luck Bill H |

Posted At 13:37:29 01/10/2002 Yo Bill....Found the website...it's HTENT.COM.... I believe I've also found the shelter my daughter and I need...the HT DELUX POLAR SHELTER....it's a tent without a sled and only weighs 10 pounds....we can pack that along to use only when the elements, (rain, etc.) get bad.... I doubt we'll be out much on the sub freezing days Hope you have a winter filled with fish......best regards....." 2new2ice ". |

Posted At 05:48:07 01/13/2002 I purchased the do it yourself shanty kit from cabelas. (You can see it on their website) The only thing you really have to do is build a floor for it which took about 1 1/2 hour and about $40.00 in supplies. All in all I have about $150 dollars wrapped up in it and it is pretty nice. Lots of room and you can configure the floor to accomdate either a couple jigging holes or one larger one for spearing. To transport the shanty I took 2- 2X4's and cut the edges down to a 45 degree taper and mounted them on one side with removable wing nuts. Works like a charm! |

Posted At 15:25:24 01/29/2002 Hi. I built a small 4'x6' fold down house for about $70 that 2 people fit in real nice. I built it to fit the in the back of my Chevy short-box. It weights about 65-75 pounds, but if 2 people (my son and I) are moving it around with other gear there is no problem. |

Posted At 17:24:18 01/29/2002 I ended up buying a Clam (Model 5600). It was simple to setup and lots of room inside. Scheels had a sale price on it I couldn't pass up. It is a two man tent but there is a lot of room with just two people. |

Posted At 16:31:16 02/02/2002 If a person is looking at a wind break for ice fishing that work's good and is cheap. Look at plastic 45 gallon drum.Take the barrel cut it so it looks like achair.don't cut the top right out about half or may be abit better. Screw a piece of plywood for were you sit, a rope in top end and you have a good wind break for your back sounds sily but pulls works well. Rob from ONTARIO |

Posted At 20:09:07 05/02/2002 I'm looking at the Otter sled / portable. The sled is big enough to carry your auger etc....and you just extend / fold the tent over you. I currently own a Clam which is great except for the seperate pieces ie: poles. The case design is nice to put your stove and few other things in but it's hard to find a place to bungee your auger to the top. Check out www.ottersled.com |
