How do you keep the holes from freezing up in your shanty while it's not in use. Heating it all the time gets a little spendy. It's also a pain to have to drill new holes everytime you go out. Thanks |

Posted At 16:54:54 01/02/2002 How often do you use your shanty? I would usually go out a couple days a week and when the holes were frozen I would use a ice pick and chisle out the holes. |

Posted At 16:55:18 01/02/2002 hi, We have a shanty too what we do is bank the house up with about 1-2 feet of snow and then the wond can't get through. then when u caome back to the shanty there will only be about 1 inch of thin ice on the holes and then you can chip it out! ;) Tosten |

Posted At 08:39:10 01/03/2002 Has anyone ever tried the tubes that fit down in the hole to prevent freezing? Saw some at Gander Mtn but never met anyone who has used them. |

Posted At 09:19:06 01/03/2002 Trying blowing up balloons and sticking them in the holes. Pop them when you are ready to fish. Also try cooking oil. It floats and does not freeze easily. |

Posted At 09:12:46 01/10/2002 I always keep a piece of metal tin the diameter of my holes in my shanty. whenever I leave I put the tin in in my hole. It has 2 handles on it and i can easily remove it to go fishing again. The measurements are 10 inches in diameter, 12 inches high, and it has a bottom and I caulked the ring on the bottom. I keep minnows in there when I'm not fishing it keeps ice from forming in my holes. Good Luck |
