Heating a well sealed ice shack with a propane heater can be incredibly dangerous not because of low oxygen, but because of carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide poisons the body in much the same way cyanide does. It bonds to red blood cells and doesn't let go for a long time. After a long enough exposure oxygen can't get in your system because the carbon monoxide has taken all the red blood cells, and thus you basically suffocate. You need to keep the shack ventilated, or use a heater with a chimney to be safe, or buy a CO detector at Wal-Mart, it really could save your life. |
