I know about the Vexilar, but what other fish finders do people recommend for ice fishing? email me if you can.

I have been using my old hummingbird for years and it has worked great. I have been out on some very cold days, with no problems yet.

i have used both kinds , the hummingbird shows fish and bait , but it is not instant info there is a delay when you move your bait on sceen . so i use th vexilar because the info is instant . hope this helps you .

Zercomm's RTS unit is like 170 some buxs thats cheap!
Very nice unit, very little interference when your next
to someone with another unit-the zercomm kick the
vexilars BUTT in that area!

I have used both, they are both awsome! If you'd like to save a few buxs go with the zercom, I have the older model a clearwater classic it was 200 dollars. I have to agree it seems easier to read the fish out from the interference better than the vex, one other thing I like about it is the battery runtime is like triple!

Anybody have any comments about the handheld flashers made by vexilar or strikemaster???? They are around $100's and seem more reasonable for the occassional ice fisherman than the $300 or $400 dollar units. I'm just looking for drop-offs to set tips. Thanks for the help.

Two questions: The transducer on my 20 year old hummingbird flasher has two cracks on it. Consequently, I get zero feet on the screen. One: Can I repair the cracks with sealer or paint? Or do I need to find a new transducer. Two: Where do I find a transducer? Thanks! Jim

Dear Jeff Glass. I'm not sure when you posted your need for a operators manual for a TCRid-1 fishfinder, but I happen to have a spare manual. E-mail me your address and I will send it to you.

By the way, I have the same fish finder because it came with the boat, but I'm having problems with it. The range seems to be screwed up. I'll be in 10' of water and it will read anything but 10'and the bottom contour is all over the place. I,m about ready to get rid of it and use my flasher the rest of the season.

Do you have any problems with your finder or is there something I don't know about?

It does not matter what brand of flasher you use just as long as you have a flasher. I bought a Vexliar last year and I would not icefish with out one. I never caught so many fish, consistantly, in my life. It is nice when you catch 25 crappies and the guy next to you only has 5. I love it when you see a thick red blip moving off the bottom to your jig and you tell your buddy "I am going to get one".

I personally have been using the Zercom Clearwater for about 9 yrs with no problems. My frieds have varying models also. The Zercom ColorPoint(like the Vexilar)is very noisy according to my buddy. My other bud has the Zercom RTS(vertical screen)and loves it.It boils down to what works for you-I have had no problems with the LCD's. Good Luck, Doug

I use a bottom line fishing buddy II (around $200), using 3 rechargeable c-cell batteries. I mount it on an inverted 5 gallon pail with a hole drilled thru the center of the bottom placing it over the fishing hole. I can also use the side finder option marking fish up to 200'out 360 degrees around the hole.

Jason,

Get a good quality balloon and cut some of the nipple off. Then fill it with some water, just enough to fill the balloon without stretching it too much. Then get a good rubber band. Slide the balloon up on to your locater's puck and wrap the rubber band around it. Now you have that little pool of water you need to shoot through the ice built right into your locator. This works great and saves time.

I've been trying to get my transducer to read through the ice. Tried water on the ice trick but no luck.I live in northern Canada where I am sometimes fishing on 36 inches of ice so possibly this may be the problem. Any sugestions???
shawn Re: Fish Finder Advice (Currently 0 replies)
Posted At 19:43:32 02/14/2002

Yeah that could be the problem especially if it is cloudy white ice. When they say it will read through the ice they dont tell you it has to be clear ice for the most part. I got to say I'm jealous of that 36inches of ice, never seen that much anywhere. Must be nice! lol Good luck to you,

I have a Zercom Color Point. My son has a Vexlar
FL-8. I thought these units would be about the same. But my Zercom picks up his transducer and cause interference on the Zercom. I thought the Zercom was supposed to have a unique interference system? His FL-8 also shows better fish marking. Does anyone else have similar experience with the Zercom??

Hey all you jokers that need manuals for your Humminbirds...go to the Humminbird website (www.humminbird.com) and download the PDF files from the Product Support page. In fact, here's the link: http://www.humminbird.com/hb_MoreSupport.asp?id=27
